Description
Elizabeth Eaton starts this story in her late husband’s rigid, unwelcoming household, where she never quite belongs. When she gets word that her estranged father, a writer and naturalist, has died in a cottage on the North Devonshire coast, she travels there to sort through his things and ends up at Woodlark Cottage on a remote estate. The nearby manor is supposed to be empty, yet she spots candlelight inside, which gives the book a gentle thread of danger alongside the emotional story.
As Elizabeth discovers her father’s nearly finished manuscript, she chooses to stay and complete it. During her time at the cottage she meets two men, a charming seafarer who shares eerie local legends, and a reserved man of business with his own motives. The novel follows Elizabeth’s point of view as she balances grief, questions about her father, and cautious romantic interest. Julie Klassen writes Christian historical fiction, so you can expect a clean, character focused romance with suspense but no explicit content.
Content: Near drowning, death (not graphic), small house fire.
