Powerful

Powerful by Lauren Roberts is a heartfelt novella set in the richly imagined world of Loot, a city sharply divided between the powerful Elites and the powerless Ordinaries. When Adena’s best friend, Paedyn, is taken away to face the deadly Purging Trials, Adena is left to navigate the harsh streets alone, relying on her resilience and the bonds of friendship that have always sustained her. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Mak, a mysterious Elite with a guarded past and hidden abilities. As they join forces on a risky journey to reunite with loved ones before the Trials begin, Adena and Mak discover unexpected courage, loyalty, and the possibility of love in a world that seems determined to keep them apart. Told through alternating perspectives, Powerful explores themes of friendship, sacrifice, and finding strength in vulnerability. The story’s vivid setting, a gritty, wintry slum, heightens the sense of urgency and connection between the characters. Adena’s warmth and Mak’s quiet intensity create a compelling dynamic, while the clean, emotional romance appeals to readers seeking heartfelt stories without explicit content. Fans of character-driven fantasy and stories about ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges will find much to love in this touching, fast-paced tale of hope and humanity.
