Falling Like Leaves

Falling Like Leaves by Misty Wilson is a cozy, small-town young adult romance that follows Ellis Lawson, a driven Manhattan teen whose senior year plans are upended when her parents separate and she moves with her mother to Bramble Falls, Connecticut. Set against the backdrop of a picturesque autumn, the story unfolds as Ellis navigates her new life in a town she once visited during childhood summers. Bramble Falls is brimming with quirky residents, charming traditions, and the annual Falling Leaves Festival, run by her enthusiastic aunt. Despite her determination to focus on college applications and a future in journalism, Ellis finds herself distracted by her former best friend, and first kiss, Cooper Barnett, who now wants nothing to do with her. As she reluctantly participates in festival activities and repeatedly crosses paths with Cooper, Ellis begins to question whether her big-city dreams are the only path worth pursuing. This heartwarming novel explores themes of family, belonging, and self-discovery, all wrapped in the warmth of a quintessential New England fall. Told from Ellis’s perspective, the story balances humor, nostalgia, and gentle romantic tension, making it perfect for readers who enjoy clean, wholesome stories with relatable characters and a strong sense of place. Fans of Gilmore Girls and Jenny Han will appreciate the small-town charm, the slow-burn romance, and the celebration of new beginnings that make Falling Like Leaves a delightful addition to any fall reading list.
