Pages I'm Turning: January 2026
Just Shelved: Recent Reads
Tired of Being Tired by Jess Connolly - This was a quick but practical read on ways to fight physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional exhaustion in a Biblical way. If that sounds like something you are needing, I would recommend!
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry - I reread this in anticipation of the Netflix movie that came out at the beginning of the month, and I really enjoyed both! I just skipped the balcony spice scene in both media forms.
Content: Occasional strong language, one open door scene (pages 253-258)
The Other Side of Now by Paige Harbinson - This is a new 5 star favorite for me! I feel like the last year or so I have really started to hone in on my favorite kind of book, and this has so many of those elements - women’s fiction with romance, magical realism, friendship dynamics, self-discovery and reflection, and travel. The small Irish town this book is set in also makes the perfect backdrop for this story.
Content: Occasional strong language, one open door scene (pages 239-242)
Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer & Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer - This series has been on my list to try for a while now, and I finally decided to start it. It has been the perfect escape in these dark cold days of January. It is funny and fast paced with lots of twists and turns, and I really love the juxtaposition of a magical fairy tale like setting with the evil they are trying to confront.
Content: Occasional strong language, no spice!
On My Nightstand: Current Reads
Accomplice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer - Because I have been enjoying this series and because I like to read series all at once, I am on book 3 of this one! I already know once I finish it, I will be anxiously awaiting the fourth book later this year in August!
The Brain at Rest: How the Art and Science of Doing Nothing Can Improve Your Life by Joseph Jebelli - I have been slowly making my way through this non-fiction read, and it is fascinating. So far, I have read about how the brain works and learned about a few different types of rest for our brains - mind wandering, nature, solitude, and sleep. Next, he is going to dive into how play is rest for our brains as well. I am excited to continue making my way through this one!
In the Queue: Upcoming Reads
Betting on You by Lynn Painter - This is the last of Lynn Painter’s young adult books that I have yet to read, so I thought it would be a perfect one to pick up around Valentine’s Day! I also heard that her new adult book releasing later this year is also closed door? Stayed tuned, and I will look into that one for you!
The Golden Goal by Annah Conwell - Last year I read the entire Appies series in the winter and absolutely fell in love with hockey romance. I made a whole video about it! Because of that, I am excited to start a new one and read my first book by Annah Conwell! She writes no spice!
Thank you for reading No Spice Books!
More to come, friends!
